Cabinetry and millwork, built to the inch.

Cabinetry is the one part of a kitchen you touch every day and the one part that cannot be adjusted after the fact. It is drawn first and installed last.

Custom or semi-custom

Two ways to build a cabinet.

Kitchen window with unlacquered brass bridge faucet and stone sill

We work in custom and semi-custom cabinetry, and the difference is not a grade of quality. It is a question of where the constraint sits. Semi-custom starts from a manufacturer’s box sizes and lets us specify door style, finish, interior fittings and hardware. It is faster to price, faster to deliver, and in a room with square walls and no obstructions it can be indistinguishable from custom once installed.

Custom starts from your room. It exists for the conditions that box sizes cannot absorb: a wall that is out of plumb, a chimney chase in the middle of a run, a ceiling height that leaves an awkward gap above a standard upper, a corner that would otherwise become dead storage. Those conditions are common in Bay Area houses, and they are the reason most of our kitchens end up at least partly custom even when the plan did not begin that way.

The honest test is not which one is better. It is whether the room has a problem a box cannot solve. We measure the space, mark the obstructions, and tell you which runs genuinely need custom and which do not, because a kitchen built entirely custom when half of it did not need to be is money spent on invisible difference.

Every inch used

Custom runs let us take storage to the ceiling and square up the awkward corners that standard boxes leave as dead space.

Fittings before finishes

Drawer depths, pull-outs and interior dividers are drawn against how you actually cook, not chosen from a catalogue at the end.

Why the drawing comes first

Cabinetry is the item with the longest lead time and the least tolerance for change. Once a run is in fabrication, a moved outlet or a re-sized appliance is not a revision, it is a remake. We resolve the cabinet drawings against the mechanical plan before anything is ordered, which is only possible because the same team is responsible for both.

  • Cabinet elevations are signed off against the plumbing, gas and electrical plan, not after it.
  • Appliance specifications are confirmed in writing before fabrication, since panel-ready and standard depths are not interchangeable.
  • One point of contact carries the drawing from design through installation.

What the cabinetry meets

Stone, tile and the seam.

Kitchen range wall with marble herringbone backsplash, custom hood and pro range

Cabinetry is never seen alone. It meets stone at the counter, tile at the backsplash, and the wall at every end panel, and those three joints are where a kitchen either reads as built or as assembled. We select the stone and tile during design, against the actual cabinet finish, rather than choosing a door colour and hoping a slab agrees with it later.

The selection is a curated one: natural stone, quartz and artisanal tile. The choice between them is partly aesthetic and partly a question you should answer honestly, which is how much maintenance you are willing to live with. Natural marble takes a patina and will show it. Quartz will not, and will also not have the depth. Neither answer is wrong, but choosing without being told the trade-off is how people end up disappointed in a surface that is performing exactly as it should.

Once the materials are set, the detail work is the part nobody photographs and everybody notices: grain running consistently across a run of doors, a backsplash whose pattern lands cleanly at the hood rather than dying in a cut tile, and end panels that finish the run against the wall instead of stopping short of it.

Selected together

Stone, tile, cabinet finish and hardware are chosen in one sitting against each other, not sequentially against a memory.

Grain and pattern

Door fronts are laid out so the grain runs continuously, and tile is set out from the focal wall so the cuts fall where they are least visible.

Maintenance is a specification

A surface that needs sealing twice a year is a fine choice if you know that when you pick it. During the design phase we tell you what each material will ask of you over ten years, and we would rather talk you out of a slab than hand you one you will resent.

  • Every material is shown as a physical sample in your own light, not as a render.
  • Templating happens after cabinet installation, so the stone is cut to what was built rather than to what was drawn.
  • A standard kitchen runs six to ten weeks, and cabinetry lead time is the single item most likely to move that date.

All questions →
How long does a typical kitchen remodel take?

A standard kitchen renovation usually takes between 6 to 10 weeks. This timeline accounts for the removal of old fixtures, structural or mechanical updates, and the precision installation of custom cabinetry and countertops.

Do you provide custom cabinetry or pre-fabricated options?

We primarily focus on custom and semi-custom cabinetry. This allows us to maximize every inch of your kitchen's footprint, providing tailored storage solutions and a higher level of finish that pre-fabricated options cannot match.

How do I choose the right materials for my countertops and backsplash?

During the design phase, our team guides you through our curated selection of natural stone, quartz, and artisanal tiles. We consider both your aesthetic preferences and your lifestyle, such as how much maintenance you're comfortable with, to find the perfect fit.
